Picture machine in the Sasso San Gottardo
The Zurich artist Tullio Zanovello built an image machine for the Alpine fortress. The 1.5 tonne work of art consists of 11 panels, 30 lights and 12 motors which were developed and programmed with the drive experts from Antrimon.
From a distance, the installation looks like sandstone slabs leaning against each other. Only on closer inspection do they turn out to be layers of wood connected with hinges, on the inside of which seven motifs are painted. Electric motors are supposed to open the slabs layer by layer according to a pre-programmed sequence and thus tell a story.
The twelve-minute performance entitled "Reduit" is accompanied by orchestral music composed by Tullio Zanovello himself and ends with a firework-like light show that illuminates the final image.
